You know, if you can tell your joke without using any of the characters in your strip even being present, then that joke is not best suited for the comic strip format.

You used to see Doonesbury comics where a character would be watching something on TV, becoming increasingly disgruntled/bemused in succeeding panels, and be absent in the final panel. Those worked because it was part of the joke, I guess. But yeah, there's no denying that Shoe sucks. I cannot BELIEVE they are still dragging its mouldering corpse around even after Jeff MacNelly's (sp?) death.
