Tuesday's Dick Tracy

Ah! I get this plotline! It's the narrative anchor for xenophobia!

I mean, I'm sure that so many spies get into the US over the American/Mexican border, instead of, you know, spy planes or forged documents or something actually spy-ish. It's a whole lot more efficient to forge Mexican documents, enter that country, and then hire a coyote to drive you over the border in a metal box with no water.

Monday's Dick Tracy

I'll be the first to admit that I have no clue what's going on in Dick Tracy. This is probably one of the hardest soaps to follow since new characters are introduced with no context, plotlines start when others haven't yet finished, the pace shifts gears from very fast to very slow, information is parsed out and connections are expected to be drawn between facts that aren't right in front of you, and everyone looks boxy (not that that makes it hard to follow since I follow Gil Thorp easily; it just bothers me).

What I've gathered is that this old German dude is someone that no one likes, his granddaughter has been kidnapped for some reason, Dick Tracy's wife didn't want him to go to Washington, and the US government's plan to save the granddaughter really sucks. Am I missing anything?

One-line explanations of Saturday's comics

Dick Tracy:

In the DT universe, God is a woman, a blond, square-jawed woman.

Momma:

Momma's fast life of degrading her children to their faces every day catches up with her.

Pluggers:

Ray Miller thinks that Pluggers are disfunctionally stupid.

Beetle Bailey:

Beetle comes out to Zero, Zero made a derogatory generalization of gay men, Beetle defends himself and his people vaguely, and Zero responds like an ass.

Dick Tracy

She's silent because she's dead. See that's my cute way of telling you that your girlfriend died. Haha, right?

Why are you crying?

Dick Tracy

And the human being that jumped in after it. Yeah her. We care about her well-being as well.
