This might make more sense if, you know, Of Mice and Men were actually about mice, instead of how people can feel insignificant in the face of adversity, circumstance, and death, as insignificant as mice. As it stands, it seems like the mice have decided that as a result of some unspeakable crime that Ziggy committed, something that he might not even understand, they're going to shoot him, and they want him to understand how it's not their fault.
