Since Jeff Keane draws the noise lines the same for the vacuum cleaner as he does for Dolly, one can interpret this panel as being about a vacuum that's shouting "The phone rang ten times and then stopped!" over the polite conversation between Dolly and Thelma. Since they're both used to these happenings in their surrealist world, they don't bat an eye and just shout over it. They must be thinking: "Maybe if we ignore it, it'll stop. Please make it stop."
