Sunday's Archie

If one for a moment ignores the "Men are from Mars, women are from Venus" style joke based on the pretty bizarre idea that it's more traditionally feminine to be outside and more traditionally masculine to be indoors, one can fully take in the madness that is panel one. First of all, what in the world is Betty wearing? Both she and Veronica have the awkward robot look going on as they hobble down the street, but Betty looks pretty roughly put together as two halves of her dress meet dangerously close to the top of her legs. Veronica, on the other hand, is slumping over ready to fall, and I don't think Betty is going to be much help in her getting up. I keep on staring at that thing the signature is written on, wondering what in the world that is, realizing that it must be the roof of a house, making Betty and Veronica about fifty feet tall and the other houses not so much in the background but just crushably small.

In panel two, we find out that enough time has passed in the Archieverse for the kids to have wireless video game controllers, but not enough for crowns to have gone out of fashion.

I kind of wish there were more opportunities to inject the adverb "CRUSHABLY" into everyday use.

Jughead's crown will never go out of fashion, because it was never in.

It just is.
