Someone pointed out in comments that they thought the relationship between Vera and Von was a little incestuous. Considering the buildup we got on this plot line and how focused Vera was on Von, and how easy it was to assume that he was her ex-husband, or at least her ex-boyfriend, I think that panel two only continues this confusion. I know where she's coming from - I've fought with my brother and sister. But did I ever reach such a moment of ecstasy when we made up that gave me an expression that approached drug-induced euphoria.
The final row though is even more confusing - if she wants to truly live, then why is she going to hang out with a boring meddler?
