Saturday's Mary Worth

The exterior of Charterstone never looked as unadorned as it does in panel one.

But that's not the point. The point is that Mary's advice here is in fact the exact opposite of her advice from yesterday. She said yesterday, "It's easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive a friend," and now "One pardons to the degree that one loves." Do you think that she's just sorta pulling a bunch of Mary Worthism's out, seeing where Vera goes with them, and if everything turns out OK, then she'll take credit, and if it turns out badly, then she'll blame Vera for not listening to the right one? Is she capable of thinking that far into the future?

IMHO, this whole Vera-Von story has an incestuous subtext.
